The Love Story of Carole Ann Boone and Ted Bundy
The birth of Rosa Bundy , Carole Ann Boone and Ted Bundy’s daughter was just another progression in their strange relationship. Despite spending his time as a vicious killer of women, Bundy also maintained long-term romantic relationships with the women in his life . The famous serial killer dated Elizabeth Kloepfer for six years and acted as a father figure to her child.
Carole Ann Boone, a role played by Kaya Scodelario in the 2019 Mystery/Crime film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, first met Bundy at the Department of Emergency Services in Olympia, Washington in 1974 where they both worked for 6 years. She was a twice-divorced mother. Bundy and Boone reconnected via letters, when Bundy was imprisoned in Utah in 1976, and that’s when their relationship became romantic. Boone, according to Rolling Stone, was instrumental in Bundy’s December 1977 escape from a Colorado prison, after which he traveled to Florida and went on a final, devastating rampage. Bundy, who was representing himself, while he was on trial in Florida in 1980, straight-up asked Boone if she wanted to marry him during a question period about their relationship.
Barely a week after murdering the 12-year-old Kimberly Leach in 1978, Bundy was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. Bundy was tried for the murder of Leach and two women of Florida State University’s Chi Omega sorority in 1979. His trial attracted quite a crowd mostly women “groupies” who flocked to the trial as spectators. The spectators often styled themselves with the straight brown hair, parted in the middle, that his victims once sported.
His relationship with Boone added further spectacle to the trial, In 1980. The couple was able to get married in the courtroom simply by stating their desire to do so in front of a judge, through an arcane loophole in Florida law. Ted had already been sentenced to death for the Chi Omega murders and was about to receive the same sentence for Kimberly Leach’s murder. Boone stuck by Bundy despite his apparent guilt, and was adamant her husband was not guilty. She was heard while speaking in Netflix, saying;“Let me put it this way, I don’t think that Ted belongs in jail. The things in Florida don’t concern me any more than the things out west do.”
The Mystery Behind the Birth of Rosa Bundy
Carole Ann Boone would often visit Bundy at Florida State Prison, after his imprisonment, and bring her son, James, along. She was believed to transport drugs for Bundy, too. It still remains a mystery how, in a prison that did not allow conjugal visits, did they conceive a child.
A former friend of Bundy’s and the author of the book The Stranger Beside Me, Ann Rule, interviewed inmates at Florida State Prison. During her interviews she found out that inmates would pool their money, draw lots, and bribe guards for impromptu conjugal sessions in the restroom or behind the water cooler. It is thus believed that Rose was conceived after Bundy won the lot. Another controversy theory states that Rose’s conception abound, including Boone passing an empty condom to Bundy via a kiss, which he then filled and returned with a kiss. When the media asked how she became pregnant, Boone replied, “It’s nobody’s business.”
