Turner is the daughter of the late Martin Edward Schottenheimer who was an American football linebacker and coach who served as a head coach in the National Football League for 21 seasons and Pat Schottenheimer . Schottenheimer was married to his wife, Pat, since 1968. The family lived on Lake Norman in North Carolina. They had two children, a daughter, Kristen, and a son, Brian, who is the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Marty’s younger brother Kurt was also a coach in the NFL.
Schottenheimer was in 2011, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This diagnosis was announced publicly in 2016. At the time of the announcement it had progressed slowly and he still maintained much of his memory and function, and he was about to begin experimental treatment to slow the progression of the disease even further. Schottenheimer was still able to travel as of December 2018, and made a brief pre-recorded speech supporting Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
His wife said that their family kept the diagnosis quiet for a while and only made the news public when the symptoms became noticeable. While speaking with WCNC in an interview , she talked about her husband and how he has coped up with his disease “ Schottenheimer has always been a good man, always happy, fun personality, lots of men friends and family friends, always one of the guys. His personality hasn’t changed that much.”
While talking about Alzheimer’s disease, Pat said, “We’re doing everything we can and we’re fortunate because we have good medical help but there’s not much out there. We’re just going to manage. The kids, the grandkids, Phoebe (the cocker spaniel), and I, we’re going to manage.”

Schottenheimer has left behind a wife of 54 years, Pat, his children Kristen and Brian, and grandchildren Brandon, Catherine, Sutton, and Savannah.
Schottenheimer’s NFL training vocation finished in 2006 after a 14-2 season with the Chargers and a divisional-round exit from the end of the season games. Schottenheimer’s girl, Kristen, said in an articulation that her dad is currently peering down on from paradise and grinning while at the same time adding: “We are so unfathomably pleased with the man he was and how he carried on with his life.”
Aside from being one of the best NFL mentors, who won 200 standard season games with four NFL groups over twenty years, Schottenheimer’s own life has stayed a discussion of the wearing scene. His significant other, Pat, upheld him through the good and bad and remained close by when he inhaled his last at age 77.
