The Western State Hurricanes was Roderick’s first major band , which he started while attending the University of Washington. The band split after failing to sign a deal with Sub Pop Records.
Roderick was offered a spot to play keyboard in popular Seattle band Harvey Danger, after the disbanding of The Western State Hurricanes. he continued to play with the band until they went on hiatus in April 2001.
Roderick turned into an establishing individual of the Seattle Music Commission in 2010, selected to the position by previous Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. After posting a Twitter thread that went viral about preventing his 9-year-old daughter from eating for six hours until she learned to use a can opener, Roderick attracted a great controversy .
After the incident went viral controversial past tweets of his resurfaced in which Roderick used antisemitic language, the n-word, rape jokes, and pejoratives. His tweets continued to go viral, many users on Twitter began to refer to Roderick by the nickname “Bean Dad”. By January 3, 2021, his Twitter account had been deleted. Following the controversy the podcast My Brother, My Brother and Me announced it would no longer be using Roderick’s music on the show.
