Hayes was a morning reporter and fill-in anchor at WISH-TV in Indianapolis before joining FOX59 and CBS4. She previously worked as a reporter, anchor, and weather forecaster for a CBS affiliate in Terre Haute, Indiana. Also, she worked as an assignment editor for a CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, before going to Indiana. In addition, she has received awards from the Indiana AP Broadcasters Association, IBA Spectrum Awards and Society of Professional Journalists.
Hayes worked as a public relations executive in New York City before entering the journalistic business. She witnessed the September 11 terrorist strikes on lower Manhattan and saw the status of the world shift within a mile of her new house just weeks after moving to the Big Apple.
