Moriarty worked as a reporter for a Columbus-based NBC affiliate WCMH-TV from 1979 to 1980. She also cohosted the local PM Magazine program with Steve Shannon at WCMH-TV.
In the years between 1980 and 1982 she worked for the Baltimore-based CBS (at the time, ABC) affiliate WJZ-TV and in 1982 and 1983, she worked for CBS affiliate WJKW-TV in Cleveland. Moriarty also served as a consumer reporter for WMAQ-TV in Chicago from 1983-86.
